Report on the first digital International Business Registers Survey

EBRA, in collaboration with CRF, IACA and ASORLAC, have launched their Report from the first digital International Business Register Report (IBRR) survey, which took place in October 2021.

The survey looked at Business Register Legal Settings and Business Dynamics and is the result of a pilot project that involved Business Registry Associations from around the world. The Project will continue in 2022, with a second survey on the Use of eServices (to be launched in September 2022).

The report analyses the results from 85 participants that took part in the online survey and offers an insight into the practice and performance of different business registries.

It highlights how different registries manage:

  • Shareholder Details
  • Beneficial Ownership
  • Incorporations and Terminations

The survey data allows business registries from around the world to learn valuable lessons, as well as sparking ideas for improving systems and overcoming obstacles within their own registries. A wide range of knowledge is covered in the survey data, including the fees in different jurisdictions and how business registers combat corporate identity theft.

The digital survey and report are the efforts of a dedicated Working Group supported by EBRA, involving highly skilled individuals representing jurisdictions and international associations from around the world.

The results from the first digital International Business Registers Survey and Report

The results from the first digital International Registers Survey and Report (launched in October 2021 in collaboration with EBRA, CRF, IACA and ASORLAC) are now available.

The digital survey is an update to the original printed Registers Report, which has been running for over 20 years.

This first digital survey looked at Business Register legal settings and Business Dynamics.  There were 85 responses from Company Registers across the world . The survey closed in November 2021 and the results were available on the new digital tool in December 2021.

The new digital format also means the results are available in a quicker timescale and in a more dynamic format, rather than in a printed report. This new approach will enable the survey will be run twice a year with a different focus each time.

The European Business Registers Association is organizing workshops in the next few months to assist in how to use the new digital tool to see the results.  It is also an opportunity to answer any questions and offer feedback on the new digital survey. Those interested in participating are invited to email Chiara at survey@ebra.be.

International Business Registers Report

The 2019 International Business Registers Report has been published.

The report is structured to reflect the diversity of respondents and the joint commitment by the four worldwide registry organisations ASORLAC (Association of Registers of Latin America and the Caribbean), CRF (Corporate Registers Forum), EBRA (European Business Registers Association) and IACA (International Association of Commercial Administrators) in supporting this work on behalf of their members.

The International Business Registers Survey and Report aims to assist business registers in comparing their own practice and performance with those of other jurisdictions. Benchmarking is one of the best ways to learn valuable lessons from others on how to improve ways of working and overcome challenges. Benchmarking in this context also serves to compare legal systems in different countries, which is critically important since legal systems are the foundation upon which all business registers operate.

The learning opportunity stretches from acquiring basic knowledge about such things as costs and fees in different jurisdictions, to more detailed information about topical issues, such as how business registers combat corporate identity theft and contribute to the international fight against economic crime.

The survey and report have evolved since 2001, growing from a small project involving a few European jurisdictions to a truly global initiative involving the cooperation and collaboration of business registers and individuals all around the world.

The survey and report are the result of the combined effort of a working group, comprising business register experts and statisticians.
