She also read a Masters Degree in European Studies and Comparative Law. Geraldine was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Malta Business Registry and Registrar in 2021. Previously to her appointment, she used to head the Legal and Enforcement Unit of the said entity and oversaw its overall function. She also worked for several years in the private sector with a leading Maltese law firm. Our History The idea for the forum was first proposed by the New Zealand Companies Office in 1999. The Ministry of Economic Development and the Companies Office hosted the inaugural Asia Pacific Corporate Registers Forum (APCRF) in Auckland, New Zealand on 26-28 February 2003. Delegates from Australia, Canada, Cook Islands, Fiji, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Mauritius, Samoa, Singapore, Tonga, the United Kingdom & Vanuatu attended. The inaugural Forum was extremely successful, with all delegates agreeing that the event should be held on an annual basis. Discussions held during the event proved that there is much to be gained from shared experience and it is hoped that the working relationships and plans formed in Auckland will be maintained in years to come. A second Forum was held in Melbourne, Australia on 8-11 March 2005. At that event the members voted to change the name to the Corporate Registers Forum and adopted the constitution. The charter members attending the Forum in Melbourne were Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Mauritius, New Zealand, Pakistan, Samoa, Singapore, United Kingdom and Vanuatu. Adel Chouari representing Tunisia Adel Chouari Executive Committee - Global REPRESENTING: Tunisia National Center for Business Register Adel Chouari serves as the founder and Director General of the Tunisian Business Registry. With a distinguished career spanning over 25 years at the National Institute for Standardization and Industrial Property (INNORPI). After earning his master’s degree in communication and journalism from the Institute of Press and Information Science (IPSI) in Tunis in 1992, Chouari began his career at INNORPI in 1993. His early roles included serving as a communications officer and subsequently as a project manager for the digitization of invention patent documents. In these capacities, he established the first unit for disseminating information contained in patent documents and founded the Tunisia Academy of Industrial Property. Chouari has pursued extensive training in trademark and patent protection, engaging with prestigious organizations such as the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, the European Patent Office (EPO) in Munich and US Patent and trademark office (USPTO) in Washington. As a project manager, he played a pivotal role in modernizing INNORPI's industrial property information system and spearheaded the institution’s digital transition. In 1996, Chouari was tasked with managing the Central business Registry, overseeing the dissemination of legal and economic information on companies gathered from local business registries at courts. This role provided him with valuable insights into the register’s economic significance and its role in safeguarding third-party rights and enhancing transparency. Driven by a strong belief in the trade registries value, Chouari embarked on a mission to modernize the Tunisian Business registry legislation and IT system. In 2010, he launched the first Tunisian governmental website for accessing to companies’ documents and data. By 2017, as Tunisia classification on the Financial Action Task Force's (FATF) grey list, Chouari led a comprehensive overhaul of the legislative and regulatory framework governing the business registry system culminating in the creation of the National Business Register in October 2018 including beneficial owner registry. In 2022, founded the AFREC the Alliance of Business Registries of French speaking countries. La Donna John representing Belize La Donna John Executive Member - The Americas Region REPRESENTING: Belize The Financial Services Commission La Donna John serves as the Director of Legal and Enforcement at the Financial Services Commission of Belize since September 2020 demonstrating expertise in navigating complex legal landscapes and ensuring regulatory compliance within the financial sector. La Donna is also an inception member of the Project Steering Committee of the Belize Companies and Corporate Affairs Registry. She has also served as a Magistrate for the Government of Belize and is a practising Attorney-at-Law and Notary Public.
